SBIC Debenture Coupon Rates Remain Historically Low

Mar 26, 2015 | Private Equity-SBICs and Venture Capital

The SBIC Funding Corporation recently announced the March 2015 pooled SBA debenture coupon rate of 2.517%, down 0.498% from the September 2014 rate. SBA debenture coupon rates continue to remain historically low. The March 2015 pooling of debentures amounted to $1.16 billion, which marks the program’s largest aggregate pooling amount to date.

SBA debenture coupon rates are pooled on a semiannual basis in March and September. The price for each pooling is determined 1 week prior to the scheduled closing and the interest rate is fixed for the 10 year life of the debenture. SBIC Funds are required to pay semiannual interest payments until the debenture is fully repaid within the 10 year life of the instrument.
