MCB Hosts Virtual Externship for College Students

Jul 7, 2020 | Featured Events, MCB Happenings

On June 30, MCB hosted a virtual externship for 26 college students from George Mason University, James Madison University, Virginia Tech and the University of Kentucky. The half-day program began with a virtual tour of the MCB office in Northern Virginia.  Panel discussions ensued on a variety of engaging topics.  MCB team members  – from young professionals to staff accountants to firm principals – spoke about different aspects of the firm’s service offerings and answered questions from the students in an open forum.

Topics included the differences between working for national accounting firms versus local firms and reviewing the path from staff accountant to firm principal. Several of the firm’s current principals began working at MCB in entry level positions, including Managing Principal Jude Covas.  Young professionals also spoke about what a typical “day in the life” of a staff accountant looks like, offering a glimpse into what these future graduates may expect.

“We enjoyed getting to know these bright students and were impressed with the insightful questions and comments they brought to our discussions,” said Pam Priester, Director of People Strategy at MCB. “We encouraged them to stay in touch with us as they complete their educational pursuits and prepare to enter the workplace.”
